Re: Computer randomly freezes
Hi neko ceko and welcome to TSF. Yes I would say that your PSU is definitely not up to scratch. You should be using a PSU like a Corsair 750W to power a 9800GT. Please note, the PSU you buy must be a quality brand like the ones mentioned in this thread. Low quality PSU's will damage your system over time, and when they go completely, can take your whole system with them.

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
Thanks...
The company which made my computer should of know that.. I mean, I even brought my computer to them 1 times about the problem and they gave it back saying everything is working fine.

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
that is because they know crap about PCs
any PC expert who knows nothing about PSU does not deserve to be an expert

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
Check the temperatures and +12V reading in BIOS, and during gameplay with SpeedFan. Post back with both sets of readings so we can compare idle and stressed performance.
If SpeedFan doesn't show the graphics card's temperature, use RivaTuner or nTune in the nvidia control panel. Also, enter your full system specs into this power calculator and set Capacitor Aging to 25%. Click the Calculate button, then add 40% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency. Are all your device drivers up to date? (graphics, sound, mouse, etc)

They just put a really low quality PSU to help power your other high end components. Do you really trust them this much? Experts are not a free commodity to stick beside someone's name just because that person was hired by a computer company.
You don't need a Corsair 750w to power that 9800GT, a Corsair 650w should be fine. Corsair 650w $100 after rebate $80 |

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
I'll use Everest for temperatures since this program looks buggy to me.. Not everything is showen etc...
When not playing: Motherboard 36 °C (97 °F) CPU 36 °C (97 °F) CPU #1 / Core #1 46 °C (115 °F) CPU #1 / Core #2 42 °C (108 °F) CPU #1 / Core #3 44 °C (111 °F) CPU #1 / Core #4 41 °C (106 °F) GPU Diode 43 °C (109 °F) STM3500418AS 31 °C (88 °F) and +12V: 1,79V Now I'll try when playing games. (This is when playing only a minute, since I can't play any longer without freezing. If you want I can check it with some games that I can run without problems (the older ones etc.). Motherboard 37 °C (99 °F) CPU 46 °C (115 °F) CPU #1 / Core #1 59 °C (135 °F) CPU #1 / Core #2 55 °C (131 °F) CPU #1 / Core #3 55 °C (131 °F) CPU #1 / Core #4 52 °C (126 °F) GPU Diode 45 °C (113 °F) STM3500418AS 31 °C (88 °F) +12V: 3,26V These look high to me Oo But I don't know much about this. Oh and thanks for the info McNinja Last edited by neko_ceko; 09-15-2009 at 07:00 AM. |

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
What are the BIOS readings? Everest is showing +12V at 1.79V and 3.26V. Both are incorrect as your computer would not even start if it was really that low. For a healthy PSU it should be between 11.4V and 12.6V at idle and under heavy stress from a fullscreeen game.
The temperatures you've posted look ok, but what about the graphics card temperature? What total did you get in the power calculator? Are all your drivers up to date?

Re: PC with 9800 GT freezes
Actually, that was not Everest that was SpeedFan. In Everest I saw that its 12V or something, and I compared it to speed fan, and I was like "*** this is probably not the thing he was talking about" so I used the one from SpeedFan.
And all drivers are up to date, and sorry I forgot about the calculator. I'll do it later when I have time. |
