I was looking to buy a new computer from best buy but i noticed that the graphics card they had in the PC i want is really weak so I wanted to see if the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS will work with the computer? I was also looking at the BFG Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 also.
Heres what the computer has for internals: AMD Phenom™ X4 9750* quad-core processor 8GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM They dont mention the motherboard type from what i can see but heres the link if you need more information http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1218096181010 Thanks and if this graphics card wont work whats a high end graphics card that will hlep im going for more gaming out of it then normal use. Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
The link times out.
Generally pre-built PCs have very weak power supplies, generally 300-400w. An 8800GTS needs at least a quality 550w PSU to work well and have a long lifespan. We recommend units from Corsair, SeaSonic, and PC Power and Cooling. A decent 550w unit from one of these brands will cost $80-100.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
I checked the link, and your motherboard has a PCI-E x16 slot which supports the two cards you mentioned. Like Phaedrus said, pre-built systems tend to have putrid power supplies so you'd do well to get a third party one from the companies he listed.
If you're looking at the 8800GTS, might I suggest the BFG 8800GT? It outperforms the 8800GTS, uses less power, is smaller, and costs around $80-100 less than the GTS.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
Best Buy only carries Corsair PSUs at their online store. I think I remember seeing a PC Power and Cooling unit *once*, but I haven't seen one since. Most of the rest of Best Buy's PSUs are overpriced garbage. We usually recommend buying from Newegg.com, they usually have the best deals:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151027 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703019 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151028 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006 Any of those will work. I suggest the higher wattage ones though, for more future upgrade capability.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
What would be a good graphics card i could run by updating the power supply but im looking towards the 1GB graphics card i dont want to have to upgrade this PC for a long time but it seems the BFG - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 likes to overheat even while being cooled so what would be a great graphics card of 1GB that works thats reasonable in price?

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
There isn't really a "best" card out there, they're all pretty well priced. On the Nvidia side the ones I consider "heavy hitters" for the price are the GTS250, GTX260, and GTX275. On the ATI side I like the 4850, 4870, and 4890. Those cards are all very powerful, while not being overkill. They need a 650-750w PSU. If they're a little expensive for you look at the Nvidia GeForce 9600GT and 9800GT, and the ATI Radeon 4670 and 4770. Those cards need a 550-650w PSU.
As for brands, for Nvidia cards we like BFG and EVGA, while for ATI we like Sapphire and PowerColor. Asus and Gigabyte are decent for either. XFX is cheap, but they have a bit higher failure rate and crap customer support. MSI is alright.

Re: BFG GeForce 8800 GTS???
Should be fine, just make sure it's a *good* 700w PSU. Don't get Coolermaster Extreme, don't get BFG or RaidMax or an Antec Earthwatts... Get one of these brands:
Corsair -- Any model SeaSonic -- Any model PC Power and Cooling -- Any Model Thermaltake -- Toughpower series only CoolerMaster -- Real Power Pro series only OCZ -- ONLY specific Fatal1ty models, check with us first
