New card no beep no signal

Hey techs
I bought a week ago a new PNY GTS 250 card for my pc (link for specs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133266) and installed it. Now my first card was a PCI express 1 now this one is a PCi express2 which should not be a problem, but after installation I got no signal no DVI no BIOS beep. First I thought I plugged wrong but checked everything and everything was right. Next I thought that my powersupply was to small so I went out and bought a 850 Rosewill (link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817182072). That arrived and I hooked it up and triple checked my whole system that I got everything right started the pc up and again no beep no signal nothing!!! All fans are on the graphic card fan is running, but nothing is starting up. Now I thought that I may have a broken Motherboard so I plugged in my old graphics card and everything, but I had the red/blue lines in my screen and my pc would not recognize my card worked with no problem. I have already tried new drives and everything else and nothing fixed it. Don't know what else could be the problem need help!!!!

Here are my PC specs:
OP: Windows XP professional
Motherboard: Gigabyte S-Series M55SLI-S4 (AMD Socket AM2)
CPU: Dual Core AMD 2.6 GHZ
RAM: 2 gb ram same company
Old card: PNY 8800GTS 320 mb
New Powersupply: 850 watts (new card requires 450)
Monitor is a 21 inch HP monitor runs with old card just not new one

Thx

Re: New card no beep no signal

It would make sense that that new of a card wouldn't work on an old board. You can try a bios update to see if it helps. But due note in the future that even though pci-e 2.0 cards are SUPPOSE to work in 1.0 slots , I've seen them be incompatible alot. Mostly in oem machines and cheaper or older boards.

You probably should also know that rosewill 850 power supply isn't very good at all and should be returned. And also that the gts250 is a rebadged 9800 which was a rebadged 8800. So you would be upgrading to just a slightly faster card then what your currently using.

Re: New card no beep no signal

Does your 8800 work with this machine using either your old or new power supply?

Re: New card no beep no signal

Yeah my 8800 worked when my old powersupply was in it and I tested it with the new one and it worked.

Re: New card no beep no signal

Well if one pci-e 2.0 card didn't work on that board I wouldn't trust another. Not to mention once again a 9800 gtx isn't far off from your current card. That and all these cards even your 8800 are definitely being bottle necked by your cpu anyway.

That motherboard only supports the athlon 64 x2 which is basically a pentium D. Games like gta 4 would always run slow despite the video card it's using. I would say to truly get a better gaming experience you should really go for a new bare bone for this machine rather then a slightly better video card for the old motherboard and cpu.
