Installing PNY 9800GT - no video
Hi all,
I'm trying to install a PNY 9800GT graphics card (low power version) but, after following all the instructions, I cannot get it to work. Specs: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz Vista 32bit service pack 1 4GB RAM Current card (integrated) nvidia GeForce 7100 PSU: 650w 36a on the 12v So I uninstalled the old drivers (have also tried this without uninstalling and still get the same result), no card to remove, put in the new card, plugged the monitor into the new card, turned the computer and monitor on and all I get is a blank screen. When I take the new card out and plug the monitor back into the comp all works as it should (hence how I am online now). I initially had this problem but then realised my power supply wasn't up to scratch so I got a new one that should run it no problems, but it's not working. As the new card is a low power one I don't need to plug anything into that - there aren't any sockets - and when the computer is on the fan on it rotates, suggesting that it's powered. Am I missing something really obvious? Any help is welcome, if you need to know anything else let me know. Thanks in advance. |

If you were previously using Onboard graphics, disable that in the Bios.
Posting you PC specs is always helpful.

Re: Installing PNY 9800GT - no video
I can't see anything in the bios relating to graphics/video. I checked it twice, might it be worded in a way that would be easy to confuse with something else?
Would disabling it in device manager help? |

Re: Installing PNY 9800GT - no video
I bought it in-store and can't find a link to it for you I'm afraid. It confused me at first because the very unhelpful 'quick installation guide' kept going on about attaching cables to the card but there was nowhere to plug them in!
My problem is solved now, it turned out that the card was faulty so the shop gave me a replacement and it's all working! Thanks for your help. |

For future reference, here is the card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133279 Very nice cards, although due to less power, the clock speeds are reduced slightly. -Mick. |
