Psu advice 2x 4870x2
Right just a quickie. I've just aquired another 4870x2. I have a coolermaster real power pro 1000w psu.
Have 2hdd's and an overclocked q9550. Should I be looking to upgrade my power supply or would you think it's sufficent for this. Thanks

Re: Psu advice 2x 4870x2
Real Power Pro 1000w is nice power supply, and it could probably handle two 4870x2s, but it's cutting it kind of fine. If you have a spare $600 lying around I would suggest getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Cooling%201200 but what you have will work. Just be careful, watch your voltages, maybe drop the OC back a notch or two.
One thing. Though CrossfireX and SLI sound nice on paper, they (and I CANNOT stress this enough) are just gimmicks. A Radeon 4870x2 will handle *anything* on the market, with power to spare. Adding a second one will add little or no real performance gain. You might see a 10% higher framerate in games at most, maybe 15%. And do you really need to run Crysis at 1680x1050 at 150fps? If I were in your position I would return the card (if you just bought it) or sell it (if you got it another way). It's not really worth it, imho.

Re: Psu advice 2x 4870x2
I was given it. I have noticed a very nice increse in clear sky. I will, like you say probably sell both of them when the new ati cards are launched.
But yeah, the difference to me is noticable. Not like a million fps on benchmarks but like crysis is now smooth in the ice levels @1920x1080 with 2xaa. Before, it wasn't. As for my overclock, i'm @ 1.19v @3.8 ghz my vid is 1.2375, so that shouldnt draw loads should it?? Psu's aint my strong point as you can see
