Random game shutdowns with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro

Hey there.

Been having this problem for a while now, problem is it only seems to happen when I play wow. Game will run fine for anywhere between 5 and 15mins and then it'll shutdown like if I held the power button in to manually shutdown. If it can last longer then 15mins then it thends to be all ok and can go for hours.

My card doesn't seem to have anyway to test the temperature so I can't tell if its heating up. I guess this is more of an assumption that its the graphics card anyway.

I've moved the hardrive up onto the desk incase it was a general heating issue and it hasn't improved the situation either.

Um, some things to help I guess:
-Windows Vista SP1
-Prebuilt Acer computer.
-Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.4GHz

If you need anything else that could help just say.

Re: Random game shutdowns with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro

Ok, took a week or so for it actually want to start playing up again. But I used that Rivatuner, and when its playing up the card was easily hitting 100 degrees. Open up the case and found the fan on the card wasn't spinning, yet all I have to do it 'nudge' it and it starts up and brings the temp down to 40 and everythings all ok again.

What would make the fan not work but start going with just a small nudge?

Re: Random game shutdowns with ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro

It might be clogged by dust. Try getting a can of compressed air (many hardware stores carry them, worst case you get it online) and blowing out the fan. Some people like to use a vacuum, but we do not recommend this as it carries the risk of electrostatic buildup around the nozzle shorting out a component.

If that doesn't fix the problem, if it's still under warranty you should be able to get a replacement. If not... Well, you can get a Radeon 4350 (basically the same thing, just a revised version of the 3450, which was a revised version of the 2600) for $35 on newegg.com.

The 3450 is actually a 2400. The 2600 pro would be a 3650 ddr2 version.
