pci-e devices undetected

hi. i have this dell optiplex gx620 its a sf type and a pain in the *** uses the horrible ich7/r on the southbridge according to cpu-z the problem is it just wont detect a dam thing i put in my pci-e slot and im pretty sure the slot works and also the cards im trying. ive been endlessly trying to install a 9400gt nvidia card (got it very very cheap ) i had to reinstall windows NO less than 7 times .becuase after failed attempts of various configurations it would render the onbaord and pcie vga useless just a black screen after i had disabled the onboard graphics and enabled pcie in bios it would still boot into windows i just couldnt see anything (changeing the bios back did not work or any other of the startup options) needles to say i cheked the slotts for dust made sure the card was properly in the slot tried takeing out ram and all that buisness ect ect ect HOWEVER it did once work it detected it and i installed the drivers and it was working but after the reboot it was unrecognised again and no amount of scanning for hardware or assigning drivers would get it back on dell offer as much support as a sharpshooter with 2 glass eyes they say to me OOOOOOO just restart your system after being on hold for 15 minutes nvidia couldnt give a **** iether same with sony all of them have really awefull customer care. hehe anyway has anyone got any ideas pretty please

My System

Re: pci-e devices undetected

Have you tried any 1.0 cards in the machine? The 260 is pretty old and it's typical for old oem pc's to not support 2.0 cards in 1.0 slots due to not bios updates.

Re: pci-e devices undetected

hi thanks for answering my post . yep i did try a 1.0 card and it was the same .the machine is a gx620 its this one http://thumbnail.image.rakuten.co.jp...ro/hs_01_a.jpg running on the old prescott 3.4 cpu. the last bios i tried was from 2008 .today it worked again for a very very short time.i was installing os on a couple of hardrives useing this machine to do it and thought id try a card with no chipset or onboard graphics drivers installed and it found the device i was able to see through a dvi cable attached to the card so then i got exited and tried the nvidia card .again device not found. i put the other card back in and again it wasnt found.it almost seemed as if it was something to do with the gma 950 i tried a few different bios settings again and just got the same results but ill keep trying. im no expert but it seems like theres some sort of conflict with the board switching between onboard and peg
