2600 xt does not activate monitor

Originally i started with a visiontek 2600hd and everything was working fine. I ended up with a virus on the comp and while fighting it suddenly the video card stopped working. the screen went blank on a reboot and would not show anything anymore. Not the bios startup or anything, the monitor displays the icon for check video signal.

So I thought that the card had gone bad even though the fan still works on it showing me that it is getting power...psu is a 650 watt unit.

A friend gave me his 2600xt which works on his machine. i plugged it in and nothing just like the hd this one doesnt display bios or anything...no signal. i dont know if the virus could have done something, although it did spread to my laptop as well through a external hd, i was able to beat it finally on the laptop.

But i am stumped and need to get my comp working again, could really use some suggestions.

Also removed cmos battery but this did not cure my ills.

Re: 2600 xt does not activate monitor

Try clearing the CMOS.
UNPLUG the PSU.
Move the CMOS jumper from pins 1 & 2 to pins 1 & 3 for ten seconds.
Move the pjumper back to pins 1 & 2.

ok tried it and still nothing, interestingly enough though the jumper has been set on 2 & 3 since the system was built.

If it does this every time that's universal computer language for no video device. Which basically means the bios can't find and video card at all to display an image on.

When you boot your machine , does it show the post at all or is there absolutely nothing on the screen?
