Compatibility Issue?

I want to upgrade my Graphics card, spec of computer are as below, I have tried installing Geforce 9400 gt and it doesn't seem to work. I get a picture, but there are lines of colour accross the screen, which get worse as I scroll down! Is this a compatiblity issue with my motherboard?

My computer company is a Medion

Mainboard: Asus P5GC-MX/MEDION/SI

Chipset: Intel i945G/Gz

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 @ 2200 MHz

Physical Memory: 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM)

Current Video car is GeForce 8600 GT

Hard Disk: Generic Flash HS-MS/SD USB Device

DVD-Rom Drive: HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device

Monitor Type: ViewSonic Ve170mb - 17 inches

Network Card: Attansic (now owned by Atheros) L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Controller

Windows Vista Home Premium Home Edition 6.00.6000

DirectX version 10.00

What is your power supply? Brand, model, wattage. That would be my first guess.
