Color Loss with new Graphics Card
Okay, so here's my dilemma, and unfortunately for me, I'm thinking this is going to end up a hardware issue with nothing I can do about it. But I'm going to try and ask away anyways.
I run a rather ancient machine with a Gig and a half of RAM and a 1.81GHz processor, but for the games I play and the things I use it for, it works just fine. My old graphics card, an ATI Radeon 9250, pretty much up and died on me, and so I replaced it with a card I bought off Newegg. The new card is an Nvidia XFX GF 8400GS and clicks right into my PCIE slot. I turned the computer on...and my screen was green. Not a solid green, but green. My computer no longer recognized blue or red color, and while everything functions normally (save for the color issue) my screen remains green despite my best efforts to solve this problem. I ditched my old drivers, installed the new ones, and to no avail. My screen is still recognizing only shades of green. I know the fault is not my monitor, because when it is off and blinks "No Signal", the text is in white and not light green. If this isn't a hardware issue and I'm just a moron somewhere down the line, could someone be so kind as to point out where I screwed up to me? I appreciate any help, thanks. |

Re: Color Loss with new Graphics Card
And a quick update, since I just noticed exactly how and where to look for my power supply information, I appear to be running with a 300w power supply made by Delta Electronics, Inc.

Re: Color Loss with new Graphics Card
That weak power supply may very well be the culprit. You'd need a 400w power supply to run a 8400GS, minimum, and we'd recommend a quality 450-500w. If you have access to any other PSUs, or a computer with a 450w+ PSU, try the card with that and see if it works better.

Re: Color Loss with new Graphics Card
Also, if you have another computer lying around, try the monitor on that. Failing that, inspect the pins on the monitor cable, see if any are bent. Or borrow another monitor cable. Since you're only getting the one colour, may be a cable or monitor issue.
