HD 4550 Cooling

Okay. I found a low profile video card that works with my slim system. It consumes only 20 watts on load. But when playing the sims 2 with all expansions on the highest settings, there are no hiccups, but my readouts say it is at 105 degrees celcius. What can I do to cool it in such a small case?

it is a Gateway SX2800 by the way,

the card only has a heatsink

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

okay. I found that I can fit a 60mm fan in there. I was thinking of mounting a thin one that's 10mm think and putting it right in front of the gpu as that would work perfectly. My only problem is, is there a way to mount without holes? Maybe some non permanent adhesive?

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

You mean just mount a fan to the side of the case? Without an air vent it won't do any good. In order to add a side fan where there isn't a space for one you'll need to do some modifications to the panel, at minimum cut a circular hole for the fan to intake air and screw holes to secure it. A strong adhesive like super glue *might* work, but I wouldn't want to chance it.

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

Not only that but just mount the fan on the outside of the panel and you can fit bigger sized fans. But yea you have to cut a hole for the air to go through.

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

there is vents for it to go through I just don't think there are any specific fan holes. I was thinking some sort of double sided tape. it's a light and thin and flat fan.

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

The second best thing to screws would be zip ties , you could zip tie it trough the vent holes. I'm not really gonna tell you to tape your computer together though.

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

Why not? I've found duct tape to be useful for cable management.

Re: HD 4550 Cooling

Yea well zip ties don't leave sticky stuff behind. Not only that but there better for cable management as well.
