[SOLVED] Replacement video card needed
I have an older system that has been running great for a few years. I do not want to replace just yet as it is running everything I need and it would be the usual nightmare setting up a new system with all the software I need to do things including photoshop, office programs, database apps and other things. I have just about given up on games a couple of years back as I spent more time configuring than playing.
A few days ago my NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE card started shutting down my system with an infinity loop message (BSD) due to nv4_disp.dll. I have tried every fix I have found on the web with no luck and decided the easiest way around it will be to replace the graphics card. System details: Processor 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 64 kilobyte primary memory cache 512 kilobyte secondary memory cache Operating System Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600) Board Board: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K8VSEDX Rev 2.00 Bus Clock: 200 megahertz BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 1007.003 06/17/2005 Display NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE [Display adapter] HP w2228h [Monitor] (22.3"vis, s/n 3CQ8233KDR, June 2008) I need a decent card that will replace the nvidia (was thinking ATI Radeon 9800 Pro but can't find one) but am have no idea what is currently available that will fit my machine. I don't need of course anything highend - just a good solid performer. Money is not a concern but I am concerned the card I get will not work with the sytem. By the way the power supply is an Antec 380 watt. Any guidance on this appreciated as I want to grab one this weekend if possible :). |

Re: Replacement video card needed
How much do you have budgeted for this?
A 4x/8x card will work in your board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102073 |

Re: Replacement video card needed
One of the newer HS4650 or HD3650 cards would require more power and most likely would be held back by the CPU. The 1650Pro is slightly more powerful then the 9800 cards were.

Re: Replacement video card needed
Just a quick update. I attemtped to source the Sapphire model locally but no luck. Rather than order from overseas I found this one locally which seems to be a slightly lower spec: PowerColor VGCPR53BGTE3 AGP (ATI): Radeon X1650 Pro 512M DDR2 DH AVIVO. See: http://www.powercolor.com/Global/pro...ProductID=863#
Do you think this one would be OK? Unfortunately I won't get it today but I should have it during the week within a couple of days of placing an order. |

Re: Replacement video card needed
Sure, it should be good, PowerColor is a decent brand and it's the same model. Should work fine.

Just wanted to update - I have the new PowerColor VGCPR53BGTE3 AGP (ATI): Radeon X1650 Pro 512M DDR2 DH AVIVO installed and after some software issues were sorted out it seems to be running great! Thanks everyone for your help with this :)
