fps measuring software

what is the program everyone uses to measure the fps of pc games on their machine?

i dont know what software there is for measuring fps but i do know that there's a command in most of the games where u can see ur fps....HL2 for example, u can go to the console and type "cl_showfps 1" or "net_graph 1"

i guess it depends on the game

Do a google search for fraps. It's a tiny utility that you start before you play the game and will place the framerate in the corner of your screen. They have a paid version but the freeware version does quite well.
