7900GT Problems
Hi!
I bought some new parts for my puter, and didn't buy a new PSU \ GFX Card, cause I thought they were good enough. New parts were: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8GHz MSI P45 NEO-F OCZ Gold XTC 4GB DDR2 PC8500 KIT Got an XFX 7900GT as GFX Card, and and a NorthQ 400W PSU. The PSU and the GFX Card worked perfectly in the old puter, however the chipset on the horrible MoBo that I had, just dragged overall performance waaaay down. Anyways, since I had a XP SP2 32-bit CD with OEM licence lying around, I installed that, hence, can't use all the memory, but that not important as of this moment. After 2 days of playing WoW I get some glitches that looks like this. WoWScrnShot_060709_183639.jpg WoWScrnShot_060709_185537.jpg I was using 185.15 drivers then. Then installed the beta ones 186.08, and got the same glitches after 24 hours max. Then I installed the newest Omegadrivers, and the problem came back after 24 hours max. And now I've tried everything from 77.xx to the newest 186.xx from Nvidia. And It's actually gotten worse. It seems to be happening more when I'm in really wide\open areas. But it now causes a complete crash of my puter, it just freezes, tho the sound doesn't freeze everytime either, but regardless what happens, it resets the puter after a while (I usually get angry and manually reset it) Don't know if i've forgotten something now, but do tell if I left something out. WATS WONG? |

Re: 7900GT Problems
Check the temps and voltages in the Bios Cpu Temp, Voltages on the 12v, 5v, 3.3v readings,
'Also using sensor view the CPU and GPU temps in windows, and the same voltages. http://www.stvsoft.com/index.php?opt...d=17&Itemid=33 |

Re: 7900GT Problems
The CPU is too hot it should be in the 30's C, check that all four legs of the heat sink are fully seated, it they are redo the thermal paste> http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

Re: 7900GT Problems
Your psu doesn't look good by those numbers either. The +5 is out of spec, and the +12 is getting there, way too high. ATX specification calls for no further out than +/-5%, on the +12 being lower than 2.5% can cause video issues, you're around the 4% high mark, can't be good.

Re: 7900GT Problems
After a whole night of idling, the CPU is at 32 degrees, and the GPU is at 55.
So either way, I have to check the CPU Cooler. The boxed cooler should be more then able to do the job, right? I got some arctic silver, tho I didn't use it, cause there was some wang stuff already on it. But its not like Arctic Silver goes out on date, as long as its 'liquid' its fine, right? And, I need to get a new PSU, and all my problems would be gone? :p |

Re: 7900GT Problems
The numbers are strange, I would verify with a Digital Volt meter first, but if you're thinking of upgrading the video card at a later date then you might as well do the PSU first.
Check the legs on the stock cooler most often we find one not snapped in correctly. Any more I install them with the motherboard out of the case in order to see the bottom side, But either way use the AS 5 as long as it isn't dried up and see what you get for temps. |

Re: 7900GT Problems
Borrowed some AS5 from a friend at some Support Center today, and borrowed a NorthQ 500W PSU.
I got it up and running now, gonna check temps after 1-2 hours of idling, and try crashing the pc in terms of doing the stuff I usually crashed on previously. Then paste the temps here. Also got a fan like this for backup, atleast until the heat outside is gone. ![]() If I remember correctly, my pc started freezing after the summerheat kicked in at max, It never beat me that it was the Intel failsafe, and the CPU was getting overheated. |

Re: 7900GT Problems
So hai.
It's ******* winter here, and the problems back again, out of nowhere. Although it doesn't freeze, it just the gfx glitches, and they're meaner then ever. Bios temps says: 46 on cpu. 28 on system 1.152V on Vcore 3.360V on 3.3V 5.087 on 5V 12.232V on 12V. I haven't done nothing to the puter cept' moving it like once or twice around the room. And no parts \ changes whatsoever has been made. What the **** is this? |

Re: 7900GT Problems
Check the GPU temp in the Nvidia control panel or with GPUz> http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads...-Z_v0.2.8.html

Re: 7900GT Problems
GPU peak temp while doing the things I usually do, when I get the glitches, was 71 Degrees Celsius.
And that ain't much, seeing that it was 52 after almost 24 hours of idling. Or am I way off here? |

Re: 7900GT Problems
For a test in the Nvidia control panel set the fan to 100% see if you get the glitches.
Have you ever cleaned the card with a can of compressed air? |
