CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

My graphics card will not scale resolutions to fit screens. It is an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 on a Toshiba Satellite laptop. I have updated the drivers for it, but when I attempt to access the CCC, I get the hourglass and nothing happens.

I am using Vista x64, and cannot downgrade to XP and am not yet willing to upgrade to the Windows 7 RC.

If you're just trying to change resolutions, have you tried right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties?

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I had it set at the monitors native resolution. The image was stretched in such a way that I could not see my desktop icons. I currently have it set below it's native resolution, but there are black bars surrounding it.

Did you get your drivers from Toshiba?

Very strange, amd doesn't show any drivers for vista64.

There's a thread at notebook review that may be helpful.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I did get them from Toshiba, as they don't have them at the ATI website.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

ATI was a little sparse with the drivers there, wonder why they don't have any, where they do for earlier models. You could try the latest one you can find, try xp drivers like in the other post, though I'm not sure if I'd want to do that, or try modded drivers like at notebook review. For nVidia, it's only been in the last 8 months or so that they have released mobile graphics drivers, before that it was fend for yourself if you had nVidia.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

After installing the windows 7 version, CCC will now open, but it doesn't help. Most of the settings are grayed out, resolution options are 0 x 0, and it doesn't seem to detect my monitor, as the Detect Displays button doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I've been searching and found a site that has drivers, don't know how good they are, but the site seems ok. Searched around to see if there was anything bad about the site, but the places I saw seemed to think it was ok. Might be worth a shot.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

I installed that one, but it appears that my graphics card can't detect the monitor though the CCC. I think I might have to live with it until Windows 7 is out.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

The windows 7 Release Candidate it out, limited time to download it, but if you do get it and a key, it's good till June of next year. Seems to run good, I was having some problems, so I uninstalled the Kaspersky win7 beta and put in AVG free for win7 and it seems good, been using it exclusively tonight without a hitch.
OK, downloads available till August 20th.

edit - seems that I'm doing a lot of edits tonight, anyway, I'm using the 32 bit RC, did use the x64 beta and that worked fine too.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

My only gripe with the win7 RC is that I read the FAQ and it said I'm going to have to do a clean install of the real thing when I get it, and obvious huge pain considering all the stuff that I'm going to have to reinstall...

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

Huge pain for sure. I dual boot, so am never in a rush to finish installing progs, just do so as I need to. Depending on your drive size and remaining space, might be worth it to partition and do the dual boot thing.

Re: CCC with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

It's likely I'll dual boot with linux.
