EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 compatibility
I'm building a custom core i7 based system and I'm looking at the eVGA Nvidia GTX 295 for a graphics card. I've been doing some research and I can't seem to find out if the card is compatible with the ASUS P6T SE motherboard, which lacks SLI support. The GTX 295 is technically a dual-GPU setup which is why the question comes into place. Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you. Suggestions on build improvements always welcome as well.
The current setup for the build is as follows (CyberPowerPC.com): Cooler Master Storm Sniper (Mid-Tower Case, default fans) Asetek Liquid CPU Cooling Intel Core-i7 950 3.06 GHz ASUS P6T Intel X58 (SE version if compatible, slightly cheaper) eVGA Nvidia GTX 295 Createive X-FI XTreme-Gamer RX-850 Watt Thermaltake PSU 6GB DDR1333 PC3 10666 Triple Channel Memory 1TB SATA-II 16mb cache, 7200 rpm HDD Windows Vista 64-MB Home Premium |

Re: EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 compatibility
Since the card has two joined gpu's it is capable of sli by itself and doesn't need to have an sli compatible motherboard.
As for build changes , change that power supply to a tough power model by thermaltake , or a corsair. Also , skip the liquid cooling system and go all air. It's pretty much just money down the drain and unnecessary leaking risk. Liquid cooling is kinda fun on an older or a cheap computer for overclocking fun. But a new i7 machine doesn't need liquid cooling or overclocking to be fast. Also skip the sound card , 100$ for that card is pretty much a waste since the motherboard already has good 8 channel audio. Other then that the rest looks fine.

Re: EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 compatibility
Great, thanks for the advice. I don't think I'll be overclocking at all really so you think the temperatures will be alright without the liquid cooling? Any recommendations on a good CPU fan cooler? Here's some of my options so far:
Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual CPU Cooling Fan System CoolerMaster V8 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan Xigmatek Thor's Hammer Gaming CPU Cooling Fan Xigmatek Dark Knight-S1283V Gaming CPU Cooling Fan XtremeGear Ultra Triple Heatpipes Cool Copper Heatsink CPU Cooling Fan Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX Gaming CPU Cooling Fan Thermaltake V1 Gaming CPU Cooling Fan These all cost roughly the same as the liquid cooling oddly enough. My only concern with the liquid cooling is having it damaged during shipping and leaking over my GPU or something. |

Re: EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 compatibility
If you're buying a pre-built PC then just get it as it is and isntall the liquid cooling yourself. Much less risk.

Re: EVGA Nvidia GTX 295 compatibility
if you go liquid cooling i'd rather go with one of the swiftech kits and i can recommend it. it's less effected by room temp and is not that difficult to install and maintain, especially if you go with a kit
