[SOLVED] EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
Okay I'm very confused..
i have an EVGA 8800 GTS and it keep overheating and freezing my comp. I know it's overheating because after my computer crashes and i touch it it burns my finger off. I have 2 fans in front, one fan in the Back, and a fan i rigged up on top of the card that keeps it more cool ( it freezes less often when i do this ) and all the fans, even the built in video card fan, run perfectly. My power supply is 480 W, easily enough to power this card. When i stick my hand in the case, it is very cool, except touching the video card is still very hot. I'm thinking one reason might be that the wires from the power supply are VERY thick and take up a lot of room, which might stop the airflow. But it still confuses me how the case feels cool inside but the video card stays hot. Anyway I've checked to make sure all the fans are running the right direction and everything so I'm wondering if there might be something wrong with the card. Thanks for any help, Jake |

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
Hello,
What is the make and model of the PSU. Not all PSU created equal. If the card is under powered that will cause it to overheat. Clean the inside case and vents and fans with compressed air. Post the temps and voltage from the BIOS. Try and manage the cables with cable ties to help the airflow. Download EVGA Precision and adjust the fan controls. http://www.evga.com/precision/

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
CoolerMaster 600W PSU
not enough amps on the 12v line and it is one of their low quality units you need one with an 80+ rating http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...air%2b550w

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
Okay i really dont have the money for a new PSU i'm going go post my temps in a while.
I cleaned out my case a lot, and rigged something on my case that would divert the airflow towards the video card. If it continues to freeze, i'm probably just going to put a 9500 GT in, even though i hate to stop using my nice card =( |

-SpeedFan v4.38-
IDLE SYSTEM GPU 63C SYSTEM 37C CPU 38C AUX 45C CORE 0 50C CORE 63C AMBIENT 0C RUNNING COUNTER-STRIKE: SOURCE GPU 67C SYSTEM 39C CPU 42C AUX 45C CORE 0 56C CORE 66C AMBIENT 0C I think thats not too hot but i dont know. EDIT okay it froze at 68C GPU Okay i researched it and 68 is nothing for an 8800 gts, so i now know it's not a heat problem.. =(( video card broken? i dunno Last edited by Razo222; 07-12-2009 at 03:29 PM. |

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
CPU 42C
CORE 0 56C CORE 66C Are far more worrisome, what are you using to get the temps? Try coretemp > http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/ It's strange the core and the total CPU are so far apart. |

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
Yeah theres mounds of dust on my cpu fan and heatsink that might be causing it to get that hot.
Ill blow the dust out of there then take a temp reading again. And im using SpeedFan |

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
What is the GPU fan set to?
Try increasing it to 70% You can use the program I linked in my first post EVGA Precision.

Re: EVGA 8800 GTS Overheating and Freezing
I will try that im just not sure if its the card temp thats the issue.
because its only 69C Max and i've read that it has to go over 80 before its too high. If you look at the cpu temps i think they might be too hot, it might just be that i will have to use the computer for less periods of time but it still doesnt make sense.. I will get extra cooling though if i have to, theres just not enough room on my motherboard to put the kind that goes under the GPU, because my sound card is in the way. For now should i keep the side of my case off or keep it on? Last edited by Razo222; 07-12-2009 at 10:08 PM. |
