Strange freezing/crashes
Hello all,
I hope someone can help me, I have no idea what to do. While watching movies on my pc, it began to occasionally crash, the monitor goes black and the light goes from green to orange. I must manually reboot. When this problem started I noticed it was only when I played wmv's. I upgraded my vlc player and tried window media player home cinema, but still it persisted. So i just got used to avoiding wmv's and stuck to avi's. The other day i defragged my drive and now, I'm afraid, it's started with the avi's. I'll be watching a movie and it plays perfectly for a little while then the same crash. |

Re: Strange freezing/crashes
Hello,
What is the make/model of the PC? If this is a custom build then post the specs.

Re: Strange freezing/crashes
People tell me just to buy a new one, but I don't like throwing out something that is perfectly fine for what i use it for.
It was overheating about 5 months ago, power supply fan went, changed it and don't seem to have problems with that now. I couldn't even begin to tell you temps etc. I know I have a small hard drive, 10 gigs, AMD Duron 1GHZ, 240mg ram, S3 Graphics ProSavage KM133 on-board video. there is one fan running on the board and the power supply... nothing feels really hot. I'm going to try to watch a movie again and see if something heats up. |

Re: Strange freezing/crashes
well i see nothing wrong with your hardware to make it overheat but i could see it working better if it had at least 512mb ram which xp needs to run properly "the more the better" and a 300watt above psu is suffecient for that old system. And a exaust fan and intake fan should be placed "you said you had one so good job there" and just give it some cleaning dusting. Also clean it up with wireties. That will help airflow greatly to keep it cool! :) hope that does it for ya!
