Arrow Video flickering with bizzare symptoms.

I have been having problems losing my video for a few seconds. For starters I am running an e8500 OC'ed to 3.86ghz and GTX 260 on a Rosewill 600W PS. This problem happens both when the processor is reset to stock speed and over clocked.

After updating my GFX drivers a last week I noticed that after playing GTA, while viewing certain web pages on Google Chrome, the screen would go black, and come back within a few seconds. It seems as the monitor was reseting the resolution, but would come back at 1680x1050. I viewed the same web pages on IE and the problem persisted.

The screen would NOT go black while playing any 3d games, though it did happen in GTA while 'paused' or at the 2d map screen.

After rolling back the drivers for my video card, the screen would not go black when viewing the certain web pages. Now it seemed to happen randomly.

Sometimes (but not all), the screen would go black almost indefinitely when in BIOS, forcing me to restart, but then be fine when I went back into it.

I've just recently reset EVGA precision to default settings, uninstalled it, and flashed my bios while also having basic GFX drivers from windows.

After booting back up, all seemed well. I re-updated my GFX drivers and still had no problems viewing the web pages that before made the screen flicker. I then started playing COD4 for a few minutes, exited and went back to a website that made the screen flicker, and it did once again go black on me.

After restarting, I booted up COD4 again and noticed It was set for 640x480, and I was not able to set the resolution any higher then 1024x768. I then checked my desktop resolution and the slider would not go any higher then 1024x768 but I was still viewing at my normal size.

After restarting again, my desktop and COD4 resolution sliders were back to normal. At this point I am seeing a link here, so I then set my COD resolution to 1680 and apply, exit game, boot up Chrome and goto a specific site and the screen starts going blank again.

That is so far most of the symptoms as I can list. I am really at a loss here. Please ask me any questions and I'll try and respond accurately.

It's very late here, sorry if my explanation isn't very clear.

Like I said, this happens both OC and at default settings.

Re: Video flickering with bizzare symptoms.

I have found that speed fan is showing my +12v rail at 11.2v.

After doing some Google searches, I am to assume that this is my problem, a bad power supply.

I'm still baffled as to why it doesn't happen when running 3d applications, but I also don't know power supply's very well.

Can anyone recommend a reliable power supply brand? I will move this to another forums if needed.

Re: Video flickering with bizzare symptoms.

Corsair, OCZ, and PC Power & Cooling are excellent brands to consider.
