Question DVI Cable

Both my video adapter and monitor have DVI ports. Is there any advantage to using this type of connection over the DB25 standard cable?

Re: DVI Cable

To my knowledge a DB25 cable is used for Serial connectors for printers. Its not a video cable.

If you mean VGA Vs DVI then there is a quality difference, for one the video signal is not converted to an Analog signal (VGA) then sent to the monitor, you can get colour quality loss as well as a number of others and the picture is a lot clearer for DVI.

Re: DVI Cable

This monitor is fairly new; a widescreen 22". It's always seemed a tiny bit blurred. I'm amazed they didn't send a DVI cable with the monitor. They sent the regular VGA instead. That's something that everyone would have.

Sorry about the description mix-up. You're correct. DBxx usually refers to a serial device hookup, although I've never seen one that has 25 pins.

Re: DVI Cable

VGA is cheaper thats why. But if you had the option go with the DVI cable much better picture quality no argument there.

Re: DVI Cable

I have the proper DVI cable now. This monitor is wide screen. When I switched the cable, I lost the resolution setting I was using. It was the only one where the aspect ratio was close to correct. So, I have a standard aspect on a wide screen now with 1.5" of black on each end of the display. Just over 19" diagonal. I guess I can get used to that. Looks sort of strange.

Re: DVI Cable

nVidia GeForce 8400 GS.

I found a setting that works. It is what the nVidia control panel calls the monitor's "native" resolution. 1680 x 1050. It's small but crystal clear. I figure I can just raise the font sizes a little and it will be okay. My eyes are not so great anymore.

If you adjust the DPI you can make the text bigger.
