Is my video card dead?
Earlier today I was playing CoD5 when suddenly my monitor went black and the sounds of the games stayed looping in one spot. My monitor showed on the screen going to power saving mode which is what it does when the monitor is on and the computer isnt. I reboot my computer to see if anything shows up. Nothing. I thought it was my adapter because when i plugged it into my laptop, it came up fine. About 20mins ago i opened my comp to check on the card and see if it was in place correctly. To my surprise, the fan is not working. I bought my card about a year and a half ago( christmas during my junior year. i am now starting college this fall ). My card is a 8600gt msi factory overclock, and since its summer its been on a lot. less than 2 years is a awfully short lifespan for a card so can anyone tell me if its dead?

Re: Is my video card dead?
alright so update. last night i switched to my onboard vidcard and starting using my computer like normal. then it froze about 5mins in and shut off. i reboot it with the case opened and found out the fan stopped working. i took out my vid drive and heanksink + fan for my cpu and cleaned them both. both fans are now working. i managed to get my vid card to work today. however, the first 10mins of operating my screen went black twice in for about 2 seconds at each interval. im sure damage is done to my vid card, but since my cpu also fried and gave me finger a 1st degree burn cus i was stupid enough to touch it, how do i know whats damaged and whats not. would the cpu effect my mobo?
