Would a busted card cause the system to physically not boot?

Seems like a novice question, and it is.

Basically, if I wiggled the monitor input on the video card's port, it would boot up if I held it in the right spot. When I moved, it would stop.

Now, it just doesn't start at all. I'm assuming it's the card, but I'd like some confirmation before I buy a new one.

Edit: I wasn't clear before I think. When I say it doesn't boot, I mean none of the lights light up at all. I figured without a video card the thing would still get power, but it doesn't seem likely.

Re: Would a busted card cause the system to physically not boot?

it sounds like the card is not seated ok
pull it out and put it back in

check your main power plug to the m/b is seated also

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

Re: Would a busted card cause the system to physically not boot?

The card is seated fine. It's the port where you plug the monitor in that's loose, that I can't get right.

The motherboard and all over power connectors are fine. The card was having problems before this, so my question is literally "Will having no video card cause the system to not power up"
