which one is better for gaming?

I like to play games on my pc here and then, I would like to play games like grand theft auto IV at fps of about 30 on medium settings..

a 9800 gt will not fit into my pc box and my power supply is not enough for one, I have a 450 watt with no available ramps.

Re: which one is better for gaming?

What Video card do you have now?
What Brand and Model PC?
The 8600GTS is the faster card but requires a 6 pin power connector.

Re: which one is better for gaming?

If the machine has the stock 3ghz pentium D still , you'll struggle with 30fps even on low settings with any card. GTA IV is cpu intensive and you really need a higher end core two duo or quad to get it running decent.

Before I changed my pentium D to a quad GTA IV was just barley playable on all low.

I guess its time for a new computer then :(, to think this computer was considered a monster for its time.

i think i have to get a 4pin to 6pin convertor

he says he has a pentium d 2.8 ghz with shadow off on a 8600gt 512

Re: which one is better for gaming?

Well as I said even with my settings low the pentium D still lagged due to simple cpu lagg. Changing the resolution and shadows will not really free up cpu power as those are graphic related settings.

From the looks of that power supplies specs your gonna need a better one , that unit doesn't have enough amps on the 12v rail.

Re: which one is better for gaming?

what would happen would my cpu burn out if i dont get a new psu? and how much do i need for both gts and gt 26 amps?

after using this website, it says i need 326 watt power supply
http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine

and after reading other forums about the 8600 gt alot of people are saying you dont even need a rail for it, it gets enough power from the pci-e slot...

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=234960

i trust this forum community's words over these websites, after seeing this what do you guys think?

Re: which one is better for gaming?

If you don't get a new power supply the power supply itself can burn out , also when a cheap power supply is overtaxed the machine will not run properly and have errors , bsod's , performance loss , ect. Some GT's don't need an extra power connector , but the gts does. However for both you would want a quality 400/450w or higher with 26 amps on the 12v rail and an 80+ certification. These are some of the lowest cost units we recommend

Re: which one is better for gaming?

of course lol, the only reason i bought this power supply is because it was the biggest watts that would fit in my computer, i have literally no room with this power supply its cramped so i'm not sure if the ones on newegg will fit in.

They should fit , they appear to be the same size. Even if they do not you can always mod the case or mount it to the outside.

Re: which one is better for gaming?

Ehhhh... Don't know about DiabloTek, and the specs provided are kind of sparse. There's no info on the efficiency rating, what type of PFC it has... The +12V rail only has 30 amps, which means that your main power rail will only deliver ~350 watts of power (12V * 30A = 360W). If you add up the +12V, +5V, and +3.3V rails you get a total of ~590W. Overall, it just looks like a *really* sketchy part.

The PSU is the ONE part of the computer you DO NOT want to skimp on quality. It pays to get a decent power supply.

Re: which one is better for gaming?

With no disrespect to your uncle , diablo tek is junk. They don't even list the efficiency which is an very obvious sign of bad quality. A better choice would have been a lower wattage/higher quality unit like the ones I previously posted. That pc power and cooling 420w is 50$ and will walk circles around anything made by diablotek.
