How to update Video card BIOS?????

Hello has any got a good link on how to update the BIOS on a video card?
I have search this forum but fund nothing.
I have a Gainward GTX 260 that should have an enhanced function for O/C. But it doesn't ...so Gainward whose service it too great and website is a bit lame too, surgest that I update the video card BIOS...they are in gremany and there english isn't too great . This is the email they sent me.

QUOTE "But the BIOS file you have to flash in DOS mode, This file is a .rom file and can not be accessed in widows or vista OS.

Also you need nvflash.exe and other related to flash the BIOS.

Instruction for flash the BIOS is

After unzipping copy all the files in a floppy or dos bootable disk or usb stick.

Use below command to flash the BIOS in DOS.( Graphics BIOS can be only flashed in DOS mode)

A:\Nvflash.exe bios0025.rom" UNQOUTE

For my liking it doesn't explain enough what i should do (ie. i run vista home Prem 64 bit ..can I open up a command prompt from within windows to run this ??)
>If anyone has done this before or can point me in the right direction I will be grateful
Thanks

Re: How to update Video card BIOS?????

You actually should leave the bios on the card alone. 99% of video cards do not need the bios flashed at all. It also is generally is dangerous to flash it because if you screw it up , you card just became the owner of a paper weight.

If you want to overclock the card you can simply use riva tuner.

Re: How to update Video card BIOS?????

emosun thanks for the reply and I appreciate the word of caution....But what I regard as an imprtant feature of this card appears to be missing ...this is that this card is a GOLDEN SAMPLE model and as such it should have an "ENHANCED MODE" for OC which GAinward statein their manual that they will Guarantee to work in any system with a "Golden sample"... I am just trying to get the features for which I paid a premium for.
Gainwards instructions are not very good and have said that if the update fails to contact the retailer...I am now waiting for a reply from the retailer regarding warranty, as as you so rightly state there is a possibility of ending up with a paperweight.

I have asked for more detailed instructions from Gainward but doubt if they will be forth coming and I would NOT buy one of there products again. The card I have GTX260GS disappeared from their front page on the web and only by cli´cking another product and going round the houses as we say, can you find updates etc to this card..

anyway i would be grateful to know if anyone has done this or if anyone has solved this through otjermeans ...uninstalling Graphic card drivers etc etc or whatever
thanks
