hey, as is apparent by the title, my new gpu seems to stop the monitor working. this has happened before with a new ram chip, which i had to end up taking out. my pc was taken down to the computer store to get a dual monitor gpu (sorry, i dont remember what brand and model it is), and to get the ram chip checked and put back in (the one that was giving me issues before)
Now apparently it was working perfectly at the store, but once i got it home the pc wouldnt recognise the monitor. Yknow the beep that's supposed to sound at startup to show recognition of the monitor? Well that doesnt sound. I took out the ram that caused this before, which did nothing, so i've come to the conclusion that it's the graphics card. I've tried two different monitors, and two cables (both female vga). I couldnt find a dvi cable to test if it worked. Please help? p.s. i'm not much of an IT geek (unfortunately ) so please speak in lay terms :p

Re: New video card issues... monitor not recognised.
List all hardware specs, including power supply wattage and brand..
You say you used to get a beep at startup, and now you dont get any beeps at all? If you did get beeps before how many, at startup?

Re: New video card issues... monitor not recognised.
Does your motherboard have onboard video? If so are you sure your
plugging the monitor cable in the right slot? Make sure that you are plugging the monitor cable into the new video card, not the existing onboard vga outlet. If you have 2 video outlets on the new card, you may try one or the other..If using a hdmi converter make sure its secured good and tight...

Re: New video card issues... monitor not recognised.
yes, my motherboard has onboard video.
i found the product names of my mobo and gpu, my motherboard is an ABIT LG-95C, and my gpu is a Galaxy GeForce 8400 GS. when looking at my mobo's specs on the net i noticed it only supports 2gb of ram. maybe that's why when i attempted to add 2 more to the 2gb already there, it stuffed up? i dont know, just a thought. also, i have tried both vga slots with the monitor cable, getting the same result for both of them. thanks for your help so far :) Last edited by EmilieDiabolica; 07-02-2009 at 02:43 AM. |

Re: New video card issues... monitor not recognised.
If the store charged you for fixing the computer, and it's not fixed, you should take it back and get them to test it for free.
