First time posting and first time building a system from scratch so please ignore my ignorance
![]() Problem: I have two BGF 9800 GT OC 1GB running in SLI mode and they both seem to idle at around 67-70C and get extremely hot when playing games like Crysis. My Specs: OS- Vista Ultimate 64 edition MOBO- XFX nForce 750i SLI Extreme Edition CPU- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66Ghz (w/Zerotherm Butterfly Cooler) RAM- 8GB OCZ SLI PC6400 DDR2 800Mhz PSU- Corsair TX750w GPU- 2x BFG 9800 GT OC 1GB running in SLI mode. Case- CoolerMaster CM690 Nvidia Ed. with 6 fans installed (1 front, 1 back, 1 side, 1 bottom, and 2 on top). BIOS readings: BIOS version 69.92.63.00.65 CPU temp 34-35c System temp 36c cpu fan speed 2752 RPM cpu Vcore 1.232v 3.3v 3.328v 5v 5.087v 12v 12.144v I should note that I have limited experience playing around in the BIOS but I would be happy for any suggestions or ideas on how to control the FAN speeds. I read somewhere here that SpeedFan is a good way to go but I am unsure of how to use it and am afraid to mess up anything in my new build. Thanks to anyone for helping in advance , cheers :) PS can someone explain to me how come each individual core on my CPU runs so much hotter than the CPU alone. My core readings are in the high 40's - low 50's but when I check the CPU temp in the bios it reads 34-35c in idle mode? |

Re: both my 9800 GT OC overheating.
Try EVGA Precision for your fan speed, very easy to use. You can also use riva tuner, little more complicated though.
I found the 9800GT to run hot, at least mine did, so I replaced the stock cooling with aftermarket, and that sorted that issue. Used an Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo, but the card is about 3 slots in width afterward, don't know if you could do that with SLI.

Re: both my 9800 GT OC overheating.
The default fan speed is 30%, use Precision to jack that up and it will cool your card much better. Only thing is noise gets up there too. The card will increase the speed, but it always seems that it lets the temps get way too high before it does so. When I manually select a fan speed, I usually go with 70%, seems to work for me while running FAH and using 100% of the GPU.
