Hello yall! I have a problem with my computer and I think it's because of the video card. I have a nvidia 9800 gt 512mb ddr3 graphics card. I'm not 100% sure it's my graphics card though. Just about 90% because my computer was working pretty swell before I put the card in.
My computer spec are Operating Sys: Xp 32 Mobo: Gefprce7050m-m PSU: 550 Watt seagate. Ram: 2gb ddr2 cpu: AMD Phenom(tm) 8650 triple-core processor 2.29gh Graphic card: nvidia 9800 gt 512mb ddr3 My computer seems fine other than that. It's just when I play games that seem to require a lot of everything and it stutters. Stutters every 5-15 minutes. My temperatures for my cpu seem to be around 55-65 maybe 70c didn't have an accurate temperature and My gpu is 70-80c when I play demanding games. Normally it idles at 66c. I Have up to date drivers for my graphics card. whenever my card makes a loud noise or the fan speeds up that's when the game usually lags. Some not. There's also a sound issue every 20 minutes maybe like a weird buurt sound. Just a random scrachy sound. It seems to only do this when I use the graphics at a high rate. Not completely sure though.. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Last edited by TeddieBearie; 07-01-2009 at 03:59 AM. Reason: Editing Title |

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
Hello and welcome to TSF
first of all your PSU is not high quality enough to handle your video card you need this: Corsair 650 W, 100$, 90$ after rebate : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=Corsair%20650 your video card temps are a bit high download RivaTuner from my sig and try to adjust your Fan control and set it to 100%

You could be correct. about the over all power supply. I use to have a 160g hard drive and when I had that hard drive my computer worked properly with everything. It mainly happens when I play a game called World of Warcraft. Anyways... now I'm using a 1 terabyte hard drive; would it direct more of the power going to the graphics card? I'm not doubting you, however, it says on their site,"The Minimum Power Requirement (Watt) This is the minimum power supply wattage requirement for the graphics card to perform properly. 400W, 6-pin power connector." Here's the site; http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/produc.../9800GT.aspx#2 it's down a little bit on the right hand side.
However.. I do understand 12v but I don't really know what 12v1A18 and all that means. It does say on the other page it needs a minimum of 12vA26 I need to figure out if mine has A26. Thank you for reading this and help me. I also like my stuff to last a long time... So if I ran that fan at 100% the whole time wouldn't it kill it a lot faster? I just don't like over clocking my stuff because I prefer to keep it for as long as I can. I was going to go to a local store and pick up a power supply but I might just buy this one on new egg.. I just hate mail and rebates lol. I'll wait until you comment again and then I'll probably buy it. Because I seriously had this computer right not, except the hard drive was a 160g seagate; now I'm using a 1 terabyte western digital. But I just started getting this stutter and it only seems to be in World of Warcraft and I know it's not my internet because I have like t1. World of warcraft use to work before though. at least it didn't seem like it had a problem.

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
the fan is made to run at 100% so you are not overclocking it
if you prefer you can set at 80%

alright, ty sir. I ordered the psu because I just want to have a normal computer hehe. Hopefully the psu will solve the problems. I think the amps are a bit lower than what the card actually shows but the volts at at the level. not 100% sure though, I don't have a program to check them.
Thank you very much for your help and I think I may of figured out the problem... It was improperly installed and I was missing some drivers... But You're totally correct about the psu because previously I tryed to upgrade my computer and it was stuttering like crazy and it was because of the power was lower than it needed to be. The Amps on this power supply only reach like 17 or 18amps for the 12vs and like 30 for the 3v something like that but it's a Seasonic 500W power supply I opened up my computer and looked at it. Thank you once again for your help. Still testing the drivers!! hopefully everything holds up ok and I'll probably just use that Psu for my new computer because I'm going to built my little brother a computer :) or just give him mine and built a new one :D Last edited by dai; 07-04-2009 at 01:53 AM. |

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
whatever is on the video box is the power for the card
add 50% to that figure and you will be in the ballpark

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
Hello, I'm still getting a stutter every now and then. I did replace my power supply with a 650 watt corsair power supply and I replaced my motherboard and processor. I now have a gigabyte g41m-es2l and my processor is intel core 2 duo e7400. Err poopy.. and thank you for your help! lol

It show's core 1, 33c, and core 2 34c. I don't think it's dealing with my motherboard or processor. I think it's either the video card or hard drive. I reinstall not to long ago but just driver sweeped the whole drive and pretty sure I got all the old drivers and reinstalled the new hardware. When I'm in a game the two temps raise to; core 1 reaches 40 and core 2 reaches 38-39

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
Dma mode? I uninstalled everything I saw in add/remove programs that linked to old hardware and new hardware drivers and I went into safe mode and uninstalled drivers with Driver Sweeper. After, I installed everything from windows update to the newest drivers. Sound, Video, motherboard and processor. I used driver sweeper after I uninstalled the old motherboard driver chipset and motherboard stuff and then installed the new motherboard but driver sweeper didn't say anything about sweeping Intel drivers so...

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
I actually don't know how to do that. I have my windows disk checked options, control panel, and system tools. Couldn't find a windows repair. How would you do that? And thank you for taking your time to help me

Thank you very much. I'm going to try that in a bit and hopefully it works.
I appreciate all your guys help. Ok, I've manage to complete that.. Now do I update my computer as well? I'm testing it out as I type. I'm curious about the updates though? Should I update my computer? I am updating the security updates right now. Possibly server packet three. I'll see what you have to say Last edited by dai; 07-09-2009 at 01:25 AM. |

Re: Stuttering computer and I think It's the video card.
it only makes a difference on a repair install
then the disk you use needs to be the same as what is installed
