Video card switch
Hello, I am considering switching from NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS to a 9800GTX 512MB PCI-E Graphics Card mainly due to the NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS running at a bad frame rate in games such as Call of duty world at war.
Firstly I would like to know if possible, is this new card able to run Crysis at Highest settings with a resolution of 1440 by 900 or more, no or some anti aliasing and maintaining at least 45 Frames per second, and secondly if my pc is capable of running this device without extra power supplies or other equipment etc. I assume that since it is still part of the 9000 series of the NVIDIA cards that it'll be compatible with my Motherboard. As for installing this card I hear it can be risky and have been told the way to install is simply uninstall the drivers from my 9500 GS in Device Manager, turning off the pc and switching the cards, turning on the pc and installing the new 9800 GTX driver. I don’t see how this would work, as if you uninstall the previous graphics card how would you be able to see anything on screen to install the new ones driver? I'll give what specs I can but I have no Information about my motherboard unfortunately. This is the information: Manufacturer: PACKARD BELL BV Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 3070MB RAM Hard Drive: 737 GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612) Do you think that what I have mentioned would work well? I would be greatful for any reply to this, Thanks! |

Re: Video card switch
It'll only work if you also get a new power supply along with the graphics card. The stock power supplies in oem machines especially are very low quality and are not powerful enough to power a high end card. For a 9800 you would need a 600w or higher with 26amps on the 12v rail and an 80+ certification.
As for 45fps on high with AA , you may want a gtx 260/280 for that.
