screen going blank after driver installation for gfx card

i have an nvidia 256 mb geforce 6200 card .my problem is that i recently reinstalled xp and so had to reload the drivers for the gfx card. i got the updated drivers from nvidia's website and on installing the drivers encountered the following problems>>>>>
first of all the screen went blank for some time ,the system was on as i could hear the background music playing in a film i was watchig but no video was there.
i restarted the computer and it was normal for some time after which again the screen went blank.
also the same thing happened when i tried changing the screen resolution to 1024*768 or above, the screen went blank instantly. at 800*600 the screen was fine but again after some time it crashed and went blank .
the card worked fine before i reinstalled xp ....so i am at a loss here ...
plz help

Re: screen going blank after driver installation for gfx card

lift your ram to 1g

these are what you need to post

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

in the device manager uninstall the video card
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer
