Graphics Card Blown?
Hey all,
I have an Nvidia 6800. So I started having BSODs about 3 weeks ago one saying nv4_disp was the cause of the problem and all others saying NMI:Parity Error/Memory Parity Check. I ran memtests with no errors found, I figured it had something to do with the graphics card as I had the same problem about a year ago. I ended up buying a new card. So today I tried loading up a game and the screen became very scrambled, when I tried rebooting the screen was in very low resolution and would not increase any further. I took the card out dusted it off and put it back in. Same problem. I have uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and the resolution is fine now, I've already tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail. I really don't want to have to buy a new graphics card as I am low on cash these days. Any suggestions on what to do? |

Re: Graphics Card Blown?
Ok, after many failed attempts at uninstalling and reinstalling I seemed to have finally initiated the correct sequence of actions to get the card working again. I left the computer off for a while and then proceeded to do as you instructed. Thank you Riskyone101. Everything seems fine as of now, but I don't trust that this will last long. Hopefully I will stand corrected. I will post back in a few days if everything stays stable, if not I will definitely be back to let let you know.

Re: Graphics Card Blown?
Great! glad to hear it!
So your not having the parity error as of now either? And yes dont mark thread yet solved let it run a few days and then post back with results. If any errors start to happen again, then run memtest86: http://www.memtest86.com/ Burn the image to cd disc here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download very simple burning program to use I find, and it makes any corrections that are needed with your permission to. Note: when running memtest, only have 1 stick of ram in the pc at a time, otherwise you will get errors reported.

Re: Graphics Card Blown?
The thing about the parity errors was that it was very sporadic. My desktop would run for several hours without it happening. But I will run that memtest if it occurs. Also, do you think it would be safe to run a game? Given that that was the reason for this problem occurring I would hate to risk having the card in the same ordeal again.

Re: Graphics Card Blown?
Sure go ahead.
Check device manager and make sure you dont have any yellow ! marks there. You can go here for finding out if you can run a particular game or not: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

Re: Graphics Card Blown?
well it seems as if my celebration was too soon. After about 3 hours of running my computer this morning I received a BSOD stating that nv4_disp was in an infinite loop, upon rebooting I find that I am in the same predicament. Low resolution with 4-bit colors. I'll see if I can get it back to how I had it before...

Replace the cmos battery. (nickel size)
