Installing a Graphics card
A recently bought a geforce gtx 250 graphics card (512mb) and proceeded to install it. Initially I couldn't install it because of its size. After moving my hard drive I overcame this problem. However once i plugged it into the pci express x16 port and plugged in the power cables something strange happened. My monitor when plugged into the graphics card or the Integrated card it stays on standby. I have tried disabling the current onboard graphics card the plugging the power cables on the graphics card but that does not work either. Is there any way to remedy this problem
ps. Its not the power supply because I had a 700w psu installed |

Re: Installing a Graphics card
Ok , That power supply is very very cheap. It's not a decent brand and does not have enough amps on any of the 12v rails to support that card. Regardless it needs to be changed.
As for the pc it may need a bios update to support pci-e 2.0 cards. However typically oem pc's have a tough time with gpu upgrades because of the lack of bios updates.

Re: Installing a Graphics card
I didn't buy it personally i just went to a computer shop and they put it in for me. Would reccomend a reasonable psu that has an output that exceeds 600w. Also how would I go about getting a bios update.
thanks |

Re: Installing a Graphics card
Bios update will be available on acer's website. And this would be a decent power supply for that card.
