very confused!!

Hello and thank you for these forums... I am in very much a confused state... I have a dell dimension 4400 pentium 4 2.8 ... and my pc is at a computer shop... the pc lady is having trouble telling me what video card to get to replace the one that was burnt/fried/used up... She took a GEFORCE 5500 out of it... I play an older game by Novalogic called Joint Operations... this 5500 ran the game very well for me... All I am asking is what graphics card to get to replace the old one... it just has to play my game without lag.... I am also looking for a price of under $100 if that is possible... I appreciate any help in this matter.... (card has to be pci or pci xpress... as I ordered the agp and it was incorrect.... again thx in advance...

Geaux Tigers....

Re: very confused!!

You could just get an old 5 or 6 series on ebay for cheap , such as another 5500 or 6200/6600.

Re: very confused!!

And 8800 gt is wayyy overkill for a single pentium 4 , it's going to halve it's speed.

Re: very confused!!

What is the name and brand of your power supply unit?
may have to open side panel for the information.

Dells have cheap psu`s in them from the factory.
You will need to replace your psu with a good quality one (corsair)
450 - 500 watt psu to run that video card.

psu`s deteriate overtime also, especially the cheap ones
which dont really give you the power it says it does in
the first place.

Re: very confused!!

Hello kodi4lsu,

The MB inside the Dell doesn't have PCI-E slot for that particular card.

Re: very confused!!

Okay... my friend who was helping me to pick out a video card advised me to get the agp.... when I brought it to the computer lady, she and her husband checked the mb.... and the agp wasnt correct... so they in turn told me to get the pci/pci-e card.... so I have been down that road... on that note, my friend was very perplexed by that information... so now I am going with the pci-e card... hopefully it will be the right one.. or pc lady will have to own up to her and her husbands original mistake.. thanks for the input....
