ATI video issues
I’m new to the forum, but you guys look pretty good, so here goes.
Dell Optiplex GX620 desktop with an 256mb ATI Radeon X600 video card, windows XP sp3 (dell loaded), connected to a Dell 2007WFP (wide format) monitor. about a month ago the power supply died and the user had a big thing to get done, so I pulled his drive out and put it into a different Opti GX620 box with a different video driver. after replacing the power supply and putting the drive back into the original box I'm having video problems. After I load the correct driver for the ATI card and reboot everything displays fine. after we reboot a couple of times the image is out of whack. The windows splash screen looks OK, but from the logon screen to the actual desktop everything is larger, stretched, and documents aren't showing up improperly. if we uninstall the ATI drivers and utilities and then reinstall them (with the necessary reboots in between) everything is OK again, until we reboot a couple more times. If I try to just install the drivers over themselves it doesn’t work. I've been using the most updated drivers from Dell, have turned off system restore for the time being, and loaded the proper drivers for the monitor, but it's still doing it. I'm starting to wonder if the trouble is with the video card rendering the image for the wide aspect monitor, or did the card possibly get juiced with the power supply? Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated

Re: ATI video issues
Sorry for the delayed response, had a tough time getting to the guys PC.
I tried dai's suggestions, unfortunately they didn't work. one detail I neglected to mention is that the card has a dual connection pigtail, so it actually shows up on the device manager as two separate cards. I have a couple of screenshots, but just don't have a place to host them. so if anyone wants to PM me with an e-mail address I'll forward them to you to have a look. Any other suggestions? I'm about ready to cut my losses and just re-load a fresh image to the box. He doesn't have many extra apps or files, but it's still a headache for the user to have something different. |
