[SOLVED] Trying (but failing) to upgrade
Okay my current system is an Asus A7V8X using an Athlon XP running 2Ghz. I have 1GB of ddr ram pc2700. My old card is Radeon 8500dv agp. I want to put in a nvidia 7600gs 512mb ddr2 agp card but it wouldnt read it. I reformated to rid my computer of ati software but my monitor wont detect the video card when i plug it in, it still accepts the ati one. So I figured get the drivers and it will be fine but all software I have found requires the hardware to be present but the monitor doesnt register the new card but the card seems to be working. The large problem here is that the mobo does not have a port that I can plug my monitor into so it must have the video card. I am truely at my wits end here and any help would just make my year. Thanks guys(and gals of course)

Re: Trying (but failing) to upgrade
I alas do not have the newest bios and I am unfalmiliar with the skills to update it. Isnt it wierd that it works for one and not the other? I believe the system does boot windows with the Nvidia card in its just the monitor doesnt seem to reconize it even when I disabled my Radeon device. The Nvidia seems to be 2 pronged and the Radeon is three, I did some research and found several people who have had the same mobo and the Nvidia card working. So I know I am screwing this up I would like some tips on doing so. And thanks for the help so far too.

Re: Trying (but failing) to upgrade
As far as I can tell there is no aux power. My other card didnt have it either. Unfortunately I dont have access to another Power Supply. The card does operate as far as I can tell. Its onboard fan is running and my computer seems to make all the nessesary sounds to tell me that it can boot to windows as well. My monitor simply doesnt reconize the card when I put it in.

Re: Trying (but failing) to upgrade
PNY GeForce 7600gs ddr2 512mb AGP
g77600sabe5ot + bte48da S/N 429143e74300980 Mix that in with I found an AUX port on the GF card too. Sigh, am I to use the same cables as the hard drive cd drive etc? Also do you think the card was not actually active in this situation thus explaining my monitor problem or is this just a general good idea? On second thought sorry, I am sure it is a good idea, just trying to see where that puts me. Also my BIOS version is 1010. Thanks again for helping guys, this card can really beef up what I can do now with my ATI card and otherwise I would need to upgrade a whole lot more just to make it worth it. This cost me 20 bucks so it has thus far been an investment I can hope works out soon. |

Re: Trying (but failing) to upgrade
Yes a lot of the 7600 cards had a 4 pin molex connector to power the card if you have an extra 4 pin plug hook it up if not what power supply is this?

Re: Trying (but failing) to upgrade
Unfortunately I dont have an extra 4-pin connector. I have to buy a new PS for a new mobo/cpu but I wanted to hold off and make sure I am getting a good one. THe one I have now is a 430watt PS I dont know what other information you need on it. Let me know.
