Possible to sub a 512MB for a 256MB?

I had a Nvidia 8600m GT 512MB card in my laptop but it eventually died and I needed to replace it. I found a Nvidia 8600m GT 256MB card and I was wondering if the difference in 512MB and 256MB made such a difference that the 256MB would not work at all on the laptop. Thanks for any help.

No it would not make that much of a difference, as long as you're not playing graphically intense games.
