Upgrading video card

Hi, im looking around for a new video card that will allow me to play source engine games, half life 2, team fortress 2 etc, with smooth fps with the settings on low atleast.

A friend told me this card:
http://www.currys.co.uk/martprd/stor...&category_oid=

Would work with my machine :

Machine name: System
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.090206-1239)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ECS
System Model: 945GCT-M2
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 430 @ 1.80GHz
Memory: 2040MB RAM
Page File: 710MB used, 3225MB available
Windows Dir: C:\WINDOWS
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 5.03.2600.2180 32bit Unicode
and a 400W psu

sorry if i've been a bit vague but it's pretty late and im just hunting for help before I buy something that isn't compatible with what I have,

Thanks for any help

Re: Upgrading video card

Not really with only a 1.8ghz celeron. That cpu is going to lagg a lot even with a gpu upgrade. It's odd because that's probably the worst cpu that the motherboard supports. At least snag a pentium D or core two duo as well if you want to play these newer games.

Re: Upgrading video card

Would overclocking the celeron do any good or is it just too bad to use?

Re: Upgrading video card

Overclocking wouldn't really do much. The 2.9ghz celeron may help better then the 1.8 , provided it's the correct socket type.

Re: Upgrading video card

Overclocking would help some, but not much. Besides, you don't want to overclock unless you have a good heatsink/fan and a decent power supply, and I don't think you have either.

I'm using a Pentium Dual Core e2200 2.2GHz, and it works pretty well both at stock speed and overclocked, if a little on the sluggish side for CPU-intensive games. You can get one on Newegg for $65.

Re: Upgrading video card

Sorry for leaving this thread for a while but I've only recently got back around to upgrades etc.

I took the 2.93ghz celeron from my other pc and put it in, at first windows booted up kind of slowly, I thought this was normal as it was a new part but wasn't sure. Anyways, when window's began loading anything graphic wise, like the windows xp loading screen just before account login, my screen went black as usual but there was a flash of green and my monitor light went from green to orange then back to green in about 1-2 seconds. I don't remember seeing this before.

But now that window's has logged in etc I noticed a little but of an upgrade in speed but im worried about stability, are these green flashs a sign of instability or just nothing?

Thanks for any help again

Re: Upgrading video card

I think this 2.9ghz cpu has maybe been a downgrade from the old one, before changing the cpu's I was getting around 20 fps ( pretty low ) in WoW and after putting the 2.9ghz cpu in i've dropped to 10ish, in larger zones it's almost unplayable.

Edit: Even counter strike 1.6 has dropped to around 12fps, was this a bad choice to switch the cpu's?

Re: Upgrading video card

Check your cpu temps and make sure it's not overheating.
