ATI Catalyst not recognizing Monitor
I’m in a bit of a pickle here. I just purchased two new Samsung SyncMaster 2333SW screens (23” widescreens) for a dual monitor setup. Running at native resolution 1920x1080 in Windows XP Pro, the secondary monitor functions correctly but the primary monitor has the “desktop scrolling” issue where the entire screen can’t be shown all at once and pans with mouse movement (I believe this is also referred to as “Virtual Desktop”). I believe this is because the Catalyst Control Center software I use doesn’t correctly recognize the first monitor and applies generic settings to it. Can anyone help? To reiterate, my problem is that the first monitor experiences the entire desktop space scrolling while the second monitor correctly doesn’t have this issue at 1920x1080. Both screens are of the same make and model and one functions as desired. Your input would be greatly appreciated as I have completely run out of ideas. Thanks!
Additional helpful details: Using Catalyst Control Center, the primary monitor and secondary monitor are shown as below: 1. ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 SERIES [Default VGA Monitor] Display Data Channel (DDC): Not Supported Display Name: Not Supported Maximum Reported Resolution: Not Supported Maximum Reported Refresh Rate: Not Supported 2. ALL-IN-WONDER 9600 SERIES – Secondary [SyncMaster] Display Data Channel (DDC): Supported Display Name: SyncMaster Maximum Reported Resolution: 1920x1080 Maximum Reported Refresh Rate: 60Hz In the Windows XP “Display Properties” menu, the “settings” tab recognizes both monitors running as “SyncMaster 2333SW” running 1920x1080 resolution at 60Hz refresh rate. Relevant System Specs: Video Card: ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT Catalyst Control Center – Ver 2009.0225.1546.28221 (up to date as of 5/31/09) Samsung 2333SW drivers (up to date as of 5/31/09) Mobo: Abit AN7 |

Re: ATI Catalyst not recognizing Monitor
That card might not be able to support two wide screen monitors of that resolution , in the sense that the card came out before many people actually had any wide screen or even flat screen monitors. Does it do the same when you flip flop the cables?

Re: ATI Catalyst not recognizing Monitor
Yes, the results are the same when I switched the cables. The "right-side" monitor (formerly the "secondary") is unable to achieve native resolution while the other monitor is now able to.
One thing that leads me to believe that it may not be the videocard being unable to recognize the large-resolution monitors is that the ATI Catalyst software doesn't even register the brand/model of one of the monitors. I would expect that if resolution support was the issue, it would only be that element and not any other that wouldn't be registered. Am I mistaken in those mode of thought? |
