Video card fan stops occasionally
The fan on my video card stops occasionally when I run games
. The same thing happened to my other video card (and the fan eventually stopped working on that one). I can start it again by spinning it with a finger. Does anyone have any idea on what could cause this?Motherboard: Asus A7V8X first video card: Asus V9280VS Geforce 4200 Ti current video card: Gainward Ultra/860 TV-DVI Geforce FX 5700 |

sounds like dust or the fan is hitting the lower heatsink. you can normaly take the fan off(if its not covered by some metal thing) by taking a screwdriver and lifting it up. when putting it back down on the motor dont push it down the furthest you can go make sure its on far enough but also make sure its not hitting anything. if its dust take a vacume and just clean it out. if you dont wana deal with any of this get a new VPU cooler

thanx for the answers!
I hope it's dust. I think if the fan were hitting the heatsink, it would make more sounds, would it not? It have been making more noise, but to hit the heatsink the fan must have loosened. The screws holding it were tight enough. OTOH, I cant understand how dust can stop the fan. Anyway, I've done what I can with an air spray (that's ok right?). I would like to lubricate the bearing but I can't access it properly. Can I safely remove the fan from the motor? Should I use any special kind of oil when lubricating? |
