i would go for your last option to stick with it a little longer, thats my plan. cause i know latest this summer time there will be new cards out and the ATI Xxxx and the GeForce6xxx will drop in price. if your more into video editing and stuff liek that you might want to check out the ATI fireGL's and the 3dlabs cards those are more work horses for 3d aplications and more power required programs

I use my pc for the same reasons and have the geforce6600 256MB. It is equal to the ATI radeon X600 i think. i have chosen nvidia over ati simply because of the price, it was cheaper. (pci-express)
It is said that ATI cards perform better for 3d applications, but i really cant tell the difference, i have had both types and both were good for me. 3dlabs is a fine choice but too expensive for me, i am not a professional anyway. geforce fx 5200 is nice, if you dont have any trouble with it then why change it?
