Plz Help; Monitor displays no signal when plugged into video card port

I have a big problem, actully its probably not that big of a problem but is to me. I am not very computer illiterate so i will try and explain as best I can.

Bought a new computer, asus vintage 4002, anyway when we took it home to set it up we had it plugged into the vga graphics slot. we went back to where we got it from and the staff said no you have to plug the monitor cable into the adapter provided and then into the graphics card slot. Anyway after doing just that turned the power on and monitor displays no signal.

This computer and monitor is brand new and i cannot use so i am pretty cheesed off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Take the PC to the place of purchase and have them hook it up to assure it works.
