ATI HD 2900 XT Problems

Hello all, maybe someone out there can help me. I recently purchased a ATI HD 2900 XT video card. I checked and double checked my current system for compatibility and from all the info I gathered, my system is compatible. See for yourself. Maybe I overlooked something.

Intel Exec. series mobo. model DQ35JO (micro ATX form factor)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 LGA775 2.13 GHz processor
Ultra XVS 700 Watts Modular Power supply
2 gb OCZ Platinum RAM
Maxtor SATA HD
LG SATA Super Multi DVD

I installed the video card and I get a blank screen on boot, not even Intel splash screen shows up. I have a 2x3 pin to 2x4 pin converter for ATI Overdrive and regular 2x3 pin PCI-e connector for power. I disabled my onboard graphics in Device Manager before booting with new card and no display. Is anyone familiar with this card and is it super picky about being compatible with other hardware.
Maybe it is DOA?
Any insight will be helpful. Thanks in advance

If you need more info just let me know.

Re: ATI HD 2900 XT Problems

To check that your card is DOA, the only and - at the same time - best way is to check it on other computer. But make sure that the other one have good PSU, your Radeon is power hunger one (about ~160-180W in stress).

I can't recall compatibility issues with this card, seriously. For me this could be a problem with three things:
- your MB bios
- problems with PSU somehow
- DOA as you mentioned already.

Re: ATI HD 2900 XT Problems

Did you make sure you enabled pci-e videocards in the bios?

Yes I enabled PCI-e in Bios. Do you think that if my mobo is PCI-e 1.0 and the card is PCI-e 2.0, that it could cause this issue?
I thought that they were backward compatible?

Guess Ill have to have it tested on a different system.

I JUST WANT TO PLAY COUNTER STRIKE!!!!!! AAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH

I recently posted about the HD 2900 XT Problems (Blank screen). Well I finally got the card to boot to the Intel Splash screen and the little lettters and numbers on the bottom right of the screen that say like 5A, BA and HA, etc. on normal boot now gets stuck at 5A and it wont let me access the BIOS. I assume the card is good since I am getting the Splash screen. What else could I be missing? Any info helps. Sorry to be a pain. Thanks in advance.

Re: Please Help!

try reinstalling the drivers

in the device manager uninstall the video card
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer

I tried to install drivers with Catalyst dwnld and it says that there are no ATI products to install.
Getting Frustrated.
any suggestions?

Do I have to install the driver befor the actual card? Shouldnt the card still fire up and the system should boot to windows without drivers installed, right?
Maybe it is the PSU not giving enough juice? I read bad reviews about my particular PSU. (Ultra XVS 700W) The box and model say that it is 700W but who knows if it really puts out what it claims.
After I exhaust every other option I guess I will start replacing hardware until I find something that works.
Thanks to all for help. I will let you know how it turns out.

Still I am for checking your Rad under other PSU / computer - if the problem occur there, it will be a final proof that your card is a reason.

Re: ATI HD 2900 XT Problems

Killaruna, I think that you are right. I will be taking this card to my local computer shop and have them test it since I dont have another computer to test it on. Im wondering if I should just RMA it and try a new one. if that one doesnt work then I will know that it is incompatibility somewhere, most likely the PSU.
