have I Overclocked Too Far?
Well, I've had my GPU (9600 GT) at this overclock for a while, as I wanted everything at a nice round number. It's all been fine, except recently when I've been playing TF2, every now and then, one or two tiny white spots will flash on and off, sort of like in a really grainy old black and white film (except only a few of them every now and then). I didn't think this was an artifact because whenever I've had artifacts in any game it's always been big black triangles originating from the centre of the screen. There are no artifacts in COD 4. Here is a picture of EVGA precision:
![]() That's 30 seconds after a game of TF2, the max the temp has ever rose in game since I got my corsair TX 850W is 58. |

Re: have I Overclocked Too Far?
Generally anything that appears on the screen that isn't suppose to be there during a 3d app is an artifact. Might want to tone it back a bit until the artifacts do not appear. Remember that a gpu doesn't need to overheat to return errors or artifacts. Also , there is no temperature sensors on the memory so careful OCing that as well.

Re: have I Overclocked Too Far?
Turn down the memory clock. Just a quick check but yours at stock is 833.
1000 is to high and will cause these problems. Mine does too. There is very little if any performance benifits to overclocking the memory. Maybe try 900 The core and shader clock should be ok they are only 50 over. |

Re: have I Overclocked Too Far?
thanks, I put it down to 900, and everything's fine :D
Does the memory just affect draw distance etc? Also, if I get 53C with my 9600 GT at load in the middle of a game now with my 850W, what will I get with my GTX 260 when I get it? |

Re: have I Overclocked Too Far?
I dont think it affects draw distance.
The program should do that. The memory can only run so fast. If it is pumping out data too fast the card cant keep up with it and you get artifacts. |

Re: have I Overclocked Too Far?
You don't need to reboot or anything, once you click apply the new settings take effect. If you register at EVGA you can download the latest version there, if not, there are versions available at some other sites.
Such asGuru3d - http://downloads.guru3d.com/EVGA-Pre...load-2112.html edit - forgot to add that I have used it on other nVidia cards besides the evga brand.
