Graphics Issues After Clean Install
I had a spare hard drive handy, so I thought I'd clean install Vista and see how it went. Same system, different hard drive, but for some reason I can't get the graphics running properly.
I installed Vista without a problem. I installed all the necessary drivers, including the most recent Nvidia driver for my GeForce 9800 GT video card. Yet by default Aero was disabled, and things seemed a bit choppy and strange. The Windows Experience Index rated the Processor, RAM and Primary Hard Disk a 5.9, but Graphics and Gaming Graphics only rate 1.0. The same system, with its original hard drive, rated all 5.9. It runs 3D games well, and has no issues. I can only think that the video card driver is somehow not operating properly, and I don't know what to do. Original specs: Intel Quad Core 2.33Ghz, 1G DDR2 RAM X 2, Western Digital 640G SATA Hard Drive, GeForce 9800 GT PCIe Video Card. The spare hard drive with the clean install and graphical issues is a Seagate 160G SATA. Any help appreciated. Last edited by Morphane; 05-28-2009 at 07:36 AM. |

Re: Graphics Issues After Clean Install
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. Did you rerun the Windows experience rating after you installed the driver?

Re: Graphics Issues After Clean Install
No, but there was no improvement in the chunkiness of the graphics. Applications didn't open smoothly.
I have to leave for work now, so I don't have time to rerun the Windows Experience Rating now, but I think it would be safe to assume it would not do anything. |

Re: Graphics Issues After Clean Install
The problem is solved.
Re-running the Windows experience rating seems to have reset everything. Now I have full graphical capability. Since it was my first time installing Vista, I wasn't quite aware of this quirk. Doesn't seem very idiot proof. |
