XFX 4870 1 GB graphics problem faced...

Hi pplz,

I've recently installed a 4870 on my desktop , driver installation was all successful and all loaded with the lastest drivers downloaded from ATI.
However monitor displays fast moving lines accross the screen especially during low end games etc , war3 , flash games etc...

Does anyone know the problem causing this or is it my ATI settings which i don't know how to configure?

Re: XFX 4870 1 GB graphics problem faced...

Might have a bad card right out of the box. Did you plug the power leads
into the card, the pci-e power leads? In bios is it set for pci-e for video?
I hate to say it but I think your psu is not strong enough, I would want
a 750watt for that. Ive read where it states that you need 2 pci-e
leads supplying 75watts per lead, not sure if your psu can do that..

Re: XFX 4870 1 GB graphics problem faced...

I see. Thanks for the reply.
My PSU does have 2 X pci E pins.
If what you say is true what may happen in future if my computer is under powered?
What sorta problems do will i be facing in future?
Will it have problems like computer hanging? or restarting suddenly? Or sudden change of resolution when etc from 1650 X 1050 to 1050 X 768 for no apparent reason...

Re: XFX 4870 1 GB graphics problem faced...

Not sure about changing resolution randomly, but I wouldnt doubt
it. When a power supply fails, it can take the mobo with it, ram, can
also damage video cards. Plus a weak or failing psu can cause all kinds
of random errors. It can also cause overheating, as lack of power
stresses components...
Im saying your psu is on the edge. It may be fine but cutting a little
to close for me. On pc's that own or build I like the comfortable feeling
of knowing that my psu is more than ok, not hoping.....

Which ms-7388 are you using? Theres a few versions. Try a bios update.
