PC Graphics Problem

Hi,

So this morning my PC was fine when I checked my email. I come home from school turn on the device and the graphics were horrible. There were lines streaming from top to bottom. I changed the monitor and had the same issue. Another thing to note is when I turn on the computer it boots up with wierd symbols, not the normal english language that is understandable but with symbols.

The resolution was set to the lowest... And when I tried to change it, it would change back without anything happening. i reinstalled windows wondering if it was some virus or trojan that may have attacked it... but again, it was even hard to do that because it was done with the wierd symbols seems like some kidna encryption... i did reinstall it, i looked up the graphics driver online and did the download, and now the PC wont even get to the start menu.. It boots, but then turns on and off then on the monitor then wierd colors appear.

Any ideas of what may be wrong.

Re: PC Graphics Problem

Please post the systems full specs , sounds like a prolonged under power or overheating with the gpu.

Re: PC Graphics Problem

ATI X300 graphics card
1 GB PC3200 400 MHz DDR
PENTIUM 4 PRocessor 3.4 GHZ
Intel D945GTP Motherboard
Sony Vaio Desktop

Replaced the motherboard about a year ago because it fried... Well it boots before just with wierd letters and a bad display, until i installed the graphics driver, it doesnt boot to the start menu and i get a half green half black display...

Could it be the motherboard, the graphics card or the the harddrive...

Re: PC Graphics Problem

Sounds like the video card possibly has bad memory if it's artifacting in the bios. May have overheated from dust possibly or the fan may not be working. Try removing the gpu and use the on board graphics. While your in there see if the gpu's fan is still running.

Re: PC Graphics Problem

HEY THANKS ALOT EMOSUN,

Youve been of great help and possibly a life saver! Our family isnt well off, so any home repairs would have been great.

There was quite alot of dust in the PC and I havent cleaned it for several months. I tried what you suggested and it turns out fine. The computer was as if it was new again. The problem was the GPU, guess it did get fried, so I will go and purchase one soon. If you have any suggestions for one, please let me know.

Again THANKYOU Emosun for your help. It was greatly appreciated...

Re: PC Graphics Problem

If your old gpu met your needs I usually just recommend buying the same one. But this time keep the dust out of the case. Lol
