HD 4870 Blue Screen

I just got an ATI HD4870 and when I run a full screen DirectX program the screen goes totally one color and then gives me a blue screen of death (I think it says that a driver was caught in an infinite loop).

I'm running Vista 32-bit (Service Pack1), 4G RAM, AMD Athlon dual core 6000+ 3.01GHz, Cool Master 750W Power Supply, M3N-HT deluxe Mother Board using on board sound and network card.

I have downloaded the latest video drivers.I have tried to run several games (Unreal Tournament 3, Supreme Commander, Chronicles of Riddick, Quake 2, H.A.W.X) and it seems the more stress the video card is under, the faster it crashes (played Quake 2 for 10-20 Minutes but played H.A.W.X for about 2).

Also the fan never spins faster (which I'm told it should do) but when I turned the fan up in Catalyst nothing changed.

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

Download the latest bios for the board to see if it helps. Also use riva tuner to adjust the fan speed if the card is overheating , it shouldn't exceed 75c.

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

Thanks but no change...

Also new symptom, random freezing/blue screening usually while watching videos(started a few hours after the original post).

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

Can you post the error message? If it restarts automatically then right click on Computer. Out of the list select properties. Go to the advanced tab and click on the settings for system start up. Then uncheck Automatic Restart.

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

The error message is "The Device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. this usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly".

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

Playing H.A.W.X, the core temp reached 50C before it blue screened. (which was about 2-3 mins after I started it)

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

what are you running
video card
cpu
m/board
ram
power supply
brand
wattage

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them

in the device manager uninstall the video card
reboot tapping f8 and choose low resolution mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers

Re: HD 4870 Blue Screen

In my first post.

But here they are again:
I'm running Vista 32-bit (Service Pack1), 4G RAM, AMD Athlon dual core 6000+ 3.01GHz, Cool Master 750W Power Supply, M3N-HT deluxe Mother Board using on board sound and network card(and obviously a HD 4870 ATI Radeon video card).

And also it does not just happen while running full screen directX applications, it blue screens while I'm watching videos (downloaded videos, I haven't tried internet videos) at random intervals but Flash things are fine (downloaded and online).
