Graphics driver

I have an HP nc6220 laptop and all drivers have been updated but the screen resolution is still huge. I set the resolution at the highest (1024x768) but it's still huge. When I go into properies -> settings -> display devices, I get two options in the dropdown: 1. Plug and Play Monitor 2. (Default Monitor). When I click on Default, I am able to get the option to change the resolution to a higher setting, but it nothing happens even though the settings get saved. When I go back into the same screen, the setting is reverted back to the Plug and Play Monitor. I do not have a plug and play monitor attached. How do I fix this?

Thanks.

Re: Graphics driver

You need to try to uninstall then reinstall your video drivers. Just updating drivers is not the best option. It is best to uninstall first. If your not sure how just post back and I will explain it.
I also just looked at the specs for your laptop and it says it comes with XP. It could be possible the video drivers are not computable with 2000. Did you install XP or 2000 drivers?

Re: Graphics driver

hi lkoetter,

I appreciate your response. I have uninstalled all 3 plug and play monitors drivers (there were 3 seperate ones in device manager) and am trying to install the driver from here:

http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/sb/cs-011594.htm

Please let me know if you see a problem. I didn't see a seperate link for 2000 vs XP drivers.

Thanks.

Re: Graphics driver

According to the specs the laptops screen has a maximum resolution of 1024x768. Only the external vga port however can support higher resolutions for external monitors.

Re: Graphics driver

Not really since the screen would still only support 1024x768. It's an older laptop and it's pretty much just built to be a portable computer , I'm not entirely sure what your wanting to get out of it.

Re: Graphics driver

Try This. Uninstall all video drivers. Restart the system. After reboot allow the found new hardware wizard run.( If it doesn't start automatically go to control panel, add new hardware.) When asked to connect to the internet select this time only. allow it to update and reboot. This should work, if not go to:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...&DwnldID=13799
and download the chipset ID utility. To identify your graphics chip. I looked and there seems to be a few different versions of the driver.
