Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

Hey guys,

I recently purchased a GeForce 9400GT in order to enhance my gaming performance. Installation went smooth and all but when i plugged my VGA cable into my monitor, for some reason it it couldnt pick up the video card. By this i mean that the monitor turns on, and on it it said no input available and then it would go into hibernation mode.

Now I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RB30, and the rub is that the graphics card is definitely running since the fan spinns and all.

I have tried EVERYTHING to start this thing up but nothing seems to work. First I thought it was my power supply since my original wattage was low (305W). I got a 500W supply and still nothing.

I tried to install the card and reboot in safe mode and vga mode and maybe try to install the driver but with no luck. The computer just wouldnt pick it up.

I cant install the driver before i put the video card in since there is no hardware to detect.

Ive removed it a lot of times and put the card back in a lot of times but with no avail .

Would anyone be able to shed any light upon this matter? if so i would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Re: Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

Is windows not recognizing the card as being installed? Or can you not even get into windows at all? Or will the card not even show the post?

Check the bios to be sure there is no setting that activates the pci-e slot.

Re: Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

well the computer turns on, there is no problem with that. i think that the problem is that the monitor doesnt recognize the graphics card.

i also updated my drivers and all too. but would you know how to go about checking the BIOS for something like that?

Re: Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

So the card will not show video of any kind at all?

Hook the monitor back up to the onboard video and start the machine , it will say somewhere near the bottom when it turns on how to enter setup , or how to enter the bios. It's usually f1 , f2 , f3 , or delete. It will show before windows starts loading. Once in the bios look for a setting that may activate pci-e video. Or somthing that says "video output" and change it from onboard to pci-e.

Re: Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

Thanks for your help and here is what i found, or rather what i didn't find. I did not find anything that looked like PCI E or anything to indicate that my PCI E slot was disabled. The only other thing i found was a function called PCI PME under my power settings. but i doubt that this is what I was looking for. I went back to my provider website and I updated my BIOS because i thought that I might not have the latest version, but it turns out that i did. I do not know if there is another update available, and if there is i wouldn't know where to get it. One other thing that you should know, My computer came with Windows XP home edition, but a few years ago I changed it to XP professional. Could this possibly have any correlation with the BIOS problem? Do you have any other suggestions on what it could be?

P.S I really appreciate all the help. Thank you for taking the time out to help me.

Re: Display issues with GeForce 9400 GT

No , if it was a software issue the card would at least post , but since it doesn't post the slot is either disabled , or the card may not be compatible because it's pci-e 2.0. But the intel chipset should support the 2.0 card.

Theres no setting to disable the onboard video in the bios?
