Geforce 8400 GS help
I currently have a radeon 9250 running on my old *** Dell Dimension 8250. One of the games I play has serious problems with ATI cards and does not work on this computer. I went out and bought a regular PCI Geforce 8400 GS. When I put the card in i see the dell intro screen, but before it starts to boot up I get a black screen. Is this card not compatible with this computer?

Re: Geforce 8400 GS help
Ok , you need to go into the bios and activate "pci video" or change the video output from agp to pci. After doing so , when you get into windows you need to remove all the ati software using driver cleaner , then install the nvidia software.

Re: Geforce 8400 GS help
Thx for the reply. Still not working. I went into bios, while the old card was in and couldnt change it to pci, but I did switch it to auto. Only options were AGP and AUTO. The thing is the card I am replacing is also a PCI card. I had already upgraded once since I bought the computer. Also I noticed that with the new card in I can not even enter setup. I get the dell intro screen where I can select to enter setup or boot options. After that I get some lines of dos txt like the system is booting up then screen goes black. Same thing happens whether I try to boot it up or go into setup. I know the system is not booting up and its not just the monitor because I never here any windows sounds and also when i press the power button it just shuts off right away as opposed to taking some time and shutting the system down.
Thank you for your help. I guess it may just be time to buy a new desktop they are cheap enough anyway. |
