I have a non-integrated eVGA nVidia 8500GT with 512mb dedicated memory that i installed post-purchase. When I start up any game, weather it be from steam or running from a disk, the game gets really choppy and laggy after about a minute into gameplay. It just started today. The computer has been running smoothly until now. I am currently running an avast scan of the computer to see if there is spyware and to make sure this is not the first sign of imminent failure. I have also updated the graphics drivers. This only postponed the choppy behavior. The hardware diagnostics tool said the card passed and had no errors or failures. My PC is about 2 years old and is out of factory warranty. I also have a linksys internet card. My main theory is that i may be overloading the power-pack when gaming however i have no way of proving this. Here's the specs of my pc if it helps:
HP a6130n 3GB RAM AMD athalon X2 5000+ (2.6 GHz) 32 bit vista home premium with service pack 1 Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Last edited by EB-0; 04-18-2009 at 07:32 PM. |

Re: eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT problems
Okay. The fan is not spinning it appears to be attempting to spin but cannot. What should I do to fix this. Should i just clear out some dust. Also I'm not sure how to use Riva Tuner to monitor the temperature

Re: eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT problems
If the cards fan isn't spinning then it's pretty safe to say it overheating. Try to clear out the dust as best you can , if the fan still does not spin then you may need a new fan/heatsink for it.
